Dahlia days

After two months of being away from Arlington due to my fall, the dahlias were enormous. Without diving them, they grew tall and bushy. The other plants look bad in comparison, day lilies gone by, ets. So will just enjoy the dahlias for while.

It is so easy with this perfectly sized tractor expertly manuvered by our neighbor across the street.  We are so fortunate to know these neighbors.

Stone wall ideas....

Or what to do with rocks from Canadian beaches.

Just the beginning of an inspiration that came today. Rocks on rocks. There may be some other items collected from beaches, ie, buoys. Or the buoys could hang on the split rail fence, see previous post. It will all make sense and give some degree of pleasure while providing homes for all our collections. We shall see.

Before.....

This the way the space between the house and barn looked from the road today. The last week in May, the pines and 3  pear trees come down, and the area will be stumped and graded. This is a big deal. We won’t get our money back on it, but it will save us pain and aggravation in the long run, no more pine needles and possibly falling trees or branches.  And there are now plans for native plants, gardening and a split rail fence going up the driveway on the right side, with trumpet vine growing along. Not bad plan I’d say....

Model boat project -the packet boat

What a surprise and delight when I met John Schaub, a model train maker in Arlington. He responded to my ad for model boat repair. Boats, trains, all the same to him. The world of miniatures always fascinates me. I have a number of boats from my father's collection. No idea about any of them. This boat pictured here is a packet boat. I found pictures of others. These boats primarily move goods and a few people, have an interesting style and have many stories to tell. John outfitted this one with people doing various things: the captain, a pilot, sisters, single man, deck hands and a seabird. Who are they all, where are they from and where are they going. Thanks John. You have made this boat come alive.
